Nintendo of Europe officials have reacted bullishly to reports that UK retail chain Index is selling GameCube consoles at £39.99 ($73) - half the recommend retail price. European PR chief Shell Pearce commented that, “Index is currently running a big promotion on all products, of which GameCube is one, offering up to 50% discount. As far as we are aware Index will continue to trade with Nintendo at certain times of the year.” Although GameCube sales have doubled in the UK in the wake of the release of Pokémon Colosseum, the UK remains a traditionally weak market for the company and this unofficial price drop will again raise concerns over the console’s longevity.
