UK's Top Mobile Games Headed By Tetris

UK trade association ELSPA has published its chart of the most downloaded mobile phone games for November 2005 in the United Kingdom. The chart compiles information supplied by 3, O2, Orange,T-Mobile, and Vodafone, and gives an intriguing look at what UK mobile game consumers are actually purchasing this holiday season. According to the chart, perennial puzzle title Tetris, published by Jamdat since that company's acquisition of Blue Lava earlier in 2005, is the top Java download, showing the continued popularity of classic puzzlers for cellphones. Of course, Jamdat is now in the process of being acquired by giant Electronic Arts, and EA's own Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf 2006, published by I-Play for mobile phones in Europe, makes it into second spot. Next up is id and Jamdat's Doom RPG, with another classic perennial, Namco's Pac-Man, at number four. The rest of the top ten is rounded out by GameLoft's Block Breaker Deluxe, I-Play's 3D Pool, Ifone's Monopoly, FIFA Football 2005 from EA and I-Play, The Weakest Link from I-Play, and GameLoft's Midnight Bowling, showcasing the domination of casual sports, puzzle, and quiz titles in the rapidly growing market. Unfortunately, similar cross-carrier mobile game charts are not yet officially available to the public in North America, where major carriers are currently more protective over chart content.
