Tools provider Unity Technologies has opened a UK studio under the leadership of former Criterion figure Graham Dunnett, to house a staff of test, support and development engineers. Dunnett spent seven years with Criterion heading the support team for the studio's proprietary RenderWare middleware. He also helped establish Criterion's Austin and Tokyo offices. The Crawley, UK studio will be Unity's third, in addition to locations in San Francisco and Copenhagen. Its Unity Engine is a 3D authoring tool for game development on PC, Mac, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360 and iPhone. In November, the company announced the Unity Engine had reached 33,500 registered developers, bolstered significantly by its decision to offer a free licensing option for indie developers.
