Warren Spector, TX Governor Rick Perry to Speak at Game On! Texas Symposium

Game On! Texas, a games education conference featuring talks from Disney Interactive Studios president Warren Spector, BioWare Austin's Richard Vogel, and Texas governor Rick Perry, will hold its debut event on April 7th in Austin.

Game On! Texas, a games education conference held in collaboration with AMD, the Austin Chamber of Commerce, the City of Austin and The Texas Film Commission, will hold its debut event on Wednesday, April 7th, in Austin. The symposium will assist the education and business sectors in improving Texas' digital media and video game education programs. Game On! Texas will also spotlight game development-inspired methods local educators use to teach children concepts in math and science. Texas governor Rick Perry will keynote at the event, addressing the game industry's importance in Texas commerce. Games for Change chairman Alan Gershenfeld will follow with his keynote speech, "Why Games are Effective for Impact Learning." Other industry experts participating in the symposium include Disney Interactive Studios president Warren Spector, BioWare Austin co-studio director Richard Vogel, and Gary Gattis, president of Spacetime Studios and chapter chair for IGDA Austin. The event will additionally host a number of panel sessions headed by guest speakers from major Texas universities, the Texas Film Commission, the Austin Chamber of Commerce and Skillpoint Alliance. "The Texas Film Commission is proud to collaborate with professionals in the video game industry at Game On! Texas," said Leah Smith, animation and video game liaison for the Texas Film Commission. "From an education perspective, video game and simulation curricula represent strong transferrable skills that combine art and STEM to help young Texans step into the future workforce." Game On! Texas will be held on April 7th, from 9 AM to 5 PM at the AMD Lone Star Campus in Austin, Texas. Registration is available here.
