Speculation is beginning to mount that Microsoft intends to unveil the next-generation Xbox console at the International Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 5, 2005. In addition to several news sites claiming “insider knowledge” to this effect, there is some circumstantial evidence, such as a planned keynote speech from Bill Gates; the company’s inability to confirm details for the X04 press event and the fact that the original Xbox was unveiled at CES 2001 all appear to point toward this conclusion. CES 2005 is also the only major trade event before E3 2005, when Sony and Nintendo are expected to reveal their new formats. Since Microsoft has long insisted that the new Xbox will be the first next-generation console to market, the next CES would seem to be the only obvious option left to the company. Source: PC Pro
