Microsoft has announced that this Wednesday's regular Xbox Live Arcade update will see another double header, with EA's Wing Commander Arena and Konami's Super Contra arcade update both headed to the service. First announced in February, Microsoft says Wing Commander Arena will bring four modes of gameplay, nine maps and, for the first time, 16 player multiplayer combat to the service in a "perfect mix of arcade fun and modern multiplayer chaos." Players can choose from Single Player, Multiplayer Team, Free for All, and Duel modes, with 18 different ships, all customizable with features like cloaking devices, mines, energy weapons, missiles. Konami will also be celebrating the 20th anniversary of Contra franchise with the release of Super Contra, an updated port of the 1988 arcade sequel, where players take on an alien menace that has taken control of a South American military installation. Like the classic Contra arcade port before it, the Xbox Live Arcade version will feature both single player and two player Live and local co-op, and will feature the traditional original and enhanced graphics, leaderboards, and 12 Achievements. Both games will be available Wednesday, July 25th, at a price of 800 Points ($10) for Wing Commander Arena and 400 Points ($5) for Super Contra.
