Independent data from Chart-Track has shown that the Xbox has overtaken sales of the GameCube in the UK, following the release of a new Christmas bundle – featuring Halo, Midtown Madness 3 and a two month Xbox trial for just £139.99 ($238). Xbox sales rose by 81% following the release of the bundle, pushing it once again into second place in the UK home console market. The percentage rise though was significantly less than enjoyed by both the GameCube and PS2, following their hardware price cuts. This will be little consolation though to Nintendo officials, who saw GameCube sales drop by 20%, despite heavy TV advertising (albeit advertising aimed at perilously narrow child audience).
