A number of reports have emerged indicating that some classic Game Boy titles may soon be playable via the Nintendo Switch Online service.
The folks at Eurogamer have managed to corroborate several rumors indicating these classic titles will soon be available on Nintendo Switch Online, and that Nintendo is apparently interested in bringing games from other older platforms to the service.
Depending on the selected titles, it would be the first time many of them have been commercially accessible since their initial debut (not counting the proliferation of emulators and ROMs, of course).
Currently Nintendo Switch Online is home to several classic NES and Super NES games. There’s plenty of gems in the Game Boy and Game Boy color libraries (including the original Pokémon games).
Debuting these titles wouldn’t close the massive archival gap on preserving Game Boy games, but it would help connect audiences with these older titles, which might feel at home on the portable Nintendo Switch platform.
It also would be a quick way for developers to dig into some popular portable games, and examine how the developers of yesteryear made compelling experiences for the teeny tiny Game Boy screen.
