Reporting a worldwide userbase approaching 140 million, Nokia announced that its Ovi Store mobile application distribution network now sees more than 200,000 new signups daily, with users contributing to 2.3 million daily app downloads. The Ovi Store, recently expanded to encompass the closed Nokia N-Gage application storefront, offers applications in the Games, Maps, Media, Messaging and Music categories for compatible Nokia mobile devices. Nokia notes that 70 developers and publishers -- including Digital Chocolate, Electronic Arts, and Gameloft -- have surpassed one million downloads for their Ovi Store offerings. Farm Frenzy publisher HeroCraft has earned more than 10 million Ovi Store downloads, and touchscreen app developer Offscreen reports download numbers in excess of 45 million. "At Nokia, we believe that connecting people with great mobile experiences is at the heart of what Ovi is all about," said Nokia Services executive vice president Tero Ojanpera. Ojanpera continues: "Today people discover Ovi through Maps, Music, Messaging, Store and Life Tools. With a new generation of amazing devices, like the Nokia N8, developers are looking at Ovi as a good business decision and a chance to innovate and create next-generation mobile experiences for our family of new Symbian smartphones."
