Since the launch of the newest Meta headset, Quest 3 on October 10th, 2023 the Superbright team has been thinking of enhancing “In Death: Unchained”. Their aim was to make the gameplay even more pleasant for the eye and accessible for the players who have acquired Quest 3. Even though after the newest update on Meta Quest 2, the game looked much better, some of the technical and visual requirements could not be fully met. Starting on November 8th, 2023, when Superbright posted the announcement about the upgrade on social media, the team has started solid work on the game and has decided to put the impact on the visual side, as it fully enables the players to dive into the world of “In Death: Unchained” from the very beginning.
From now on, upon entering these surroundings, everyone will be able to see much more lighting in the interiors, mostly coming from the stained glass windows, but also in the reflexes that would be visible on almost all objects. Additionally, the looks of the floors and the stairs will change detectably, creating a brand new picture that differentiates from the previous look and puts the enemies as well as the buildings in a fresh perspective. The upgraded version for Quest 3 presents itself like this:
But it's not all - focusing on the visual side, Superbright's team has also decided to enhance the enemies themselves by adding shadows to their figures, which is also strongly connected to the lighting update all together. From now on, the players will be able to see the full character in a changed surroundings and their movement casting shadows onto the floor, along with the bright light glancing off of it. Purgatory is the first chapter to be enhanced, but there is more to come. More upcoming updates will be announced in 2024, with a detailed date yet to be set.
“In Death: Unchained” Quest 3 upgrade includes (so far):
Display resolution improved by around 30%
Added high refresh rate support (90Hz)
Improved stained glass windows now provide ambient lighting inside buildings
Added more complex reflective surfaces allowing for more realistic visuals
Enemies are finally casting shadows!
Brand new, intricate floor patterns and high quality materials
Other technical improvements
“We were glad with the way ‘In Death: Unchained’ looked right after the newest update for Quest 2, but we knew that it had to be even better for Quest 3, as we thought of a few ideas for the players. The update is just one of them, with many more to come. ‘In Death: Unchained’ still gathers thousands of active players who are strongly engaged in the life of the game and up-to-date with everything new. That's why we enjoy enhancing the game for our players. Here, it is huge; that’s why we’re still putting effort into enhancing it as best as we can,” says Wojciech Podgorski, Superbright’s CEO.
About “In Death: Unchained'' according to Forbes: “The best archery game available for VR.” With nearly 60 updates since its launch in 2020 (including: a new game mode, seasons, tournaments, weapon skins, and graphic upgrades). “In Death: Unchained” is a must-have on Meta Quest 3.
