Bandai Namco | LONDON, UK - 8 February 2005 - Atari today revealed the vast number of Act of War: Direct Action demos downloaded globally since its online debut on Friday 14 January. In just over two weeks well in excess of half a million fans have downloaded the demo to experience an early first-hand taste of tomorrow's war. The first weekend saw an incredible 110,000 downloads in Europe alone.
In total over 230,000 European gamers have made space on their hard drives for the demo, while in the U.S. the figure has shot past 350,000 and climbing. With the counter showing little sign of slowing down on either side of the Atlantic, the Act of War: Direct Action demo is on the verge of setting a new record for Atari, which also recently saw an incredible level of success for its downloadable demo of Rollercoaster Tycoon 3.
"With a game as exquisite as Act of War: Direct Action we never doubted that many people would leap at the chance to have an early glimpse of what this game has to offer, but even we are surprised at the demo's popularity," said Martin Spiess, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Atari Europe. "Considering the not insignificant size of the demo and the fact that Act of War: Direct Action is a brand new property within the video games market, the level of attention the demo has received and is continuing to attract is an amazing success."
The English language single player Act of War: Direct Action demo is taken from the game's level six mission set in Egypt, entitled 'Falling Hawk'. Developed by Eugen Systems and with a storyline and game universe created in cooperation with Dale Brown, 15-time New York Times best-selling author and expert on US military, global conflict and future military technology, Act of War: Direct Action is to be released in March 2005.
