Slitherine has served up the latest episode of The Geek Recipe, its mouth-watering cookery show which is produced by gamers for gamers. Available now on Slitherine’s YouTube channel, episode six of Season 2 features actress Devora Wilde, who recently played one of the main origin characters in the acclaimed RPG Baldur's Gate III.
With Easter right around the corner, Wilde assists Slitherine’s very own master chef (and Chief Marketing Officer) Marco Minoli in preparing torta pasqualina, a traditional Italian Easter pie. Here Wilde discusses her largest role to date in Baldur’s Gate III, her path to breaking into the industry, and her approach to both voice acting and onscreen roles.
The Bulgarian-born actress Devora Wilde started her acting career in onscreen roles on TV and in films before entering the games industry four years ago. Over the last few years, she has lent her vocal talents to some of the biggest games of the recent generation, including Baldur's Gate III, Cyberpunk 2077, and Battlefield 2042.
“I don’t really see the two as that separate. Acting is acting at the end of the day. You’re still doing the same preparation, approaching the character in the same way, and thinking about the character’s motivations. Just because it’s a voice project doesn’t mean you do less work for it.” - Devora Wilde. In the episode, Wilde discussed what it was like to play the character of Lae'zel for four years in Baldur’s Gate III. She told us: “This is the longest project I’ve ever been on. Four years is a significant chunk of time and you get to really know and love your character.” When talking about whether she would revisit the character in future, she said: “I would love to be able to play this character again and continue the story or maybe even a prequel.”
When asked about what it’s like to play a character years before seeing the end result, she said: “It’s weird. Usually, you get an image of what your character looks like before you do the voice which I think is very helpful because it does help to shape your idea of what the character will sound like. For Baldur’s Gate, I must have done a year before seeing the character in the world which is weird. You really have to use your imagination as it’s a fantasy game, so you’ve got dragons, monsters, and all sorts of things in the environment.”
The Geek Recipe reaffirms that the way to a gamer’s heart is through the stomach, regardless of background or skill level. Each new episode invites a renowned game developer, writer, creator, or director to Slitherine’s kitchen, where the celebrity guests share the secret ingredients of not only what makes great food, but also great entertainment.
In the last episode, Spiders CEO and co-founder Jehanne Rousseau weaved her magic in Slitherine’s kitchen and helped prepare some delicious passatelli asciutti. Here Rousseau discussed the risk factors associated with creating new IPs, the interactive process of modern game development, and the pressures and expectations the studio faced when crafting the much-anticipated GreedFall 2: The Dying World.
