  • Blue Scarab Entertainment is founded by a team of 20+ year industry veterans who led development on Helldivers 2, Battlefield, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, IMVU, and Star Stable Online.

  • The studio is developing an original IP: a story-driven MMORPG built using Unreal Engine 5, with a unique blend of cozy escapism, true-crime, and horseback riding.

Stockholm, Sweden (17 July, 2024) - Blue Scarab Entertainment is thrilled to announce the establishment of a new game studio headquartered in Stockholm. The company has secured over $7 million in its seed investment led by NetEase Inc and Behold Ventures. Other key investors include Raw Fury founder Jonas Antonsson, Betware founder Ólafur Andri Ragnarsson, and Creandum founder Stefan Lindeberg.

Blue Scarab Entertainment is led by CEO Colin Cragg and CTO Enno Rehling, industry veterans with over 40 years of combined experience in the MMORPG space. The studio team brings over a century of experience, a passion for MMOs, and a track record of success working on global game franchises such as Helldivers 2, Star Stable Online, World of Warcraft, Battlefield, Age of Conan, and other notable franchises.

"With the backing of NetEase Games we're empowered to bring our vision to life. We're grateful for their commitment to creative freedom, supporting expertise, and resources as we set off on this adventure," says Colin Cragg, CEO at Blue Scarab Entertainment.

Joining the team, that has now grown past twenty seasoned developers, are industry veterans:

  • Craig Morrison joins as the Studio Director. His past contributions include Studio Creative Director at DICE, Principal Designer at Blizzard Entertainment, and Creative Director at Funcom. He worked on franchises including World of Warcraft, Battlefield, Age of Conan, and Anarchy Online.

  • Guillaume Lhoyer is the studio’s Principal Game Designer. His recent past credits include leading system design on Helldivers 2 and Vermintide 2: Chaos Wastes.

  • Ashley Nicollette is entering as the Community and Marketing Director having previously served as the Community & Marketing Director for Helldivers 2 at Arrowhead Game Studios.

The team’s first project is well underway: an original IP built in Unreal Engine 5. Cozy exploration meets true-crime in our story-driven MMORPG that puts players in the saddle as they discover a beautiful open world on horseback and uncover a dark mystery together.

“As the games industry has expanded, we have welcomed many new audiences. We believe there is space for fusing and evolving previous gaming and media experiences into something new and fresh for this expanded community,” said Craig Morrison, Studio Director at Blue Scarab Entertainment.

He continued, “Innovation through iteration can be very powerful. Our goal is to bring all the expertise that our team has accumulated to forge new experiences for a wider audience than ever before. We want to try to defy genre expectations, while still leveraging all the skills and experience of the team we have assembled.”
