NEW YORK, DECEMBER 3rd, 2024 - Essay Games has today released a brand new demo for its upcoming ‘dad simulator’, Bundle of Joy, ahead of the game’s full release in Spring of 2025.
Bundle of Joy is a lighthearted minigame compilation about becoming a parent during the pandemic. Funny but moving, the game connects on a level of shared parental trauma, and the inexplicable joy of raising a child.
Introspective narrative vignettes accompany a chaotic day populated by a collection of 15 childcare challenges including changing a diaper, sucking snot out of a blocked nose, and clipping baby’s fingernails.
“It’s based on personal experience,” said Nicholas O’Brien, Essay Games Founder and Lead Game Designer of Bundle of Joy, “but I hope it reflects a sentiment many parents endured while struggling to keep a small child alive during recent trying times. We wanted to create an experience that resonated with parents and caregivers and - via a very deliberate philosophy of difficulty - create a space for shared catharsis. Ultimately it’s a game about looking after yourself, too.”
The new demo, which has just launched on Steam, includes the brand new toy clean-up and burping mini-game, as well as new difficulty tiers, controller support, and Steam Deck Compatibility.
Bundle of Joy releases on Steam in Spring of 2025, with a release date to be revealed soon.
