Cologne, Germany, June 06, 2024 – devcom is excited to announce the launch of their new Scholarship Programs, dedicated to enhancing inclusivity and diversity within the video games industry. This initiative aims to recruit and retain under-represented and underestimated game developers by partnering with international organizations to support and sustain the industry.

The core concept of the Scholarship Programs is to create more opportunities for game developers who face barriers to independent attendance at the devcom Developer Conference and gamescom, taking place from August 18 to 25. Central to the program’s mission is the emphasis on the recruitment and retention of qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds, especially those from globally marginalized and minority communities.

Key Benefits for participants provided by devcom & gamescom:

  • Free Passes for devcom: August 18-20

  • Free Passes for gamescom b2b: August 21-23

  • Online briefing prior to the events

  • On-site gathering and networking opportunities

  • Support and direct contact for scholars and partners before and during events

  • Promotion for partners and their applications

The Scholarship Programs will team up with international organizations, universities, associations, and companies to extend their reach and run applications, review processes, and provide additional support to the selected participants.

Partner responsibilities:

  • Create and distribute application forms to their community

  • Selection process for applications aligned with Scholarship Program efforts

  • Contribution to online and on-site programs (Optional)

  • Financial support for scholars (Optional)

  • Program Sponsorship for on-site gatherings or other parts of the program (Optional)

We are proud to have our first three official partners already in place: International Game Developers Association (IGDA), Global Game Jam, and IndieGameBusiness® will expand the reach of the program and support their communities by offering scholarship opportunities. Additional partners are already being onboarded, and information for scholars on how to apply for the program with our partners will be updated on the partner communication channels as well as on our website at: https://www.devcom.global/ddc-2024/for-attendees/#inclusion .

Organizations, universities, associations, and companies who want to become a partner can apply for the 2024 program until June 27 by using the Partner Application Form.

Quote from Robin Hartmann, Senior PR & Partnership Manager, devcom:

"We have always had a commitment to fostering a welcoming atmosphere for all, and this step professionalizes devcom and gamescom’s ongoing efforts to nurture a sense of safety and belonging among our global community. By expanding opportunities for attendance at our events, we are enriching the industry with fresh perspectives while ensuring its long-term sustainability and growth. For years, devcom has provided free access to our conference for selected communities and those in need. We have now reached a stage where enhancing these efforts requires the support of allies who share our mission. I am excited to meet the scholars and welcome new partners to join our programs."

By collaborating with partners, devcom & gamescom ensure the scholarship program not only meets but exceeds its goals in promoting diversity and inclusion within the industry.
