Vancouver, Canada — November 12th, 2022: Metanaut is thrilled to announce the long-awaited mixed reality mode for their game, Gadgeteer. This groundbreaking update transforms players' physical spaces into a canvas for intricate Rube Goldberg machines, blending digital creativity with real-world environments.
With this update, players can transform any space into their personal playground. Build a row of dominos across your couch! Launch rubber ducks from one table to another! Roll balls down a flight of stairs and watch them topple over castles. Or build a machine that plays music on your walls! The possibilities are endless and are limited only by players’ imaginations.
Gadgeteer was originally conceived as the perfect game for both virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). After a five-year wait since the game’s initial launch in 2019, mixed reality (MR) technology has finally matured to the point where Creative Director, Peter Kao, can fully realize Gadgeteer’s cross-reality vision.
“Gadgeteer is the ideal game for mixed reality,” says Kao. “Chain reaction machines inherently rely on the clever use of the surrounding environment. With this update, our players can now build complex, imaginative machines that weave through their furniture, bounce off of their walls, and use the unique contours of their homes as canvases. This update is all about giving players more opportunities to be more creative and innovative using their familiar surroundings.”
This isn’t Gadgeteer’s first foray into augmented / mixed reality. The game previously flirted with an AR version after being accepted into the ‘Magic Leap Independent Creator Program’ back in February 2019.
“As someone who grew up building Rube Goldberg machines around the house, I'm thrilled to bring this feature to life," Kao shares enthusiastically. "And as a parent to a toddler, I'm excited about how this update will foster creativity and physics understanding in kids, all while keeping their homes tidy. Parents can also say goodbye to late-night LEGO foot injuries!"
The mixed reality update for Gadgeteer will be available for free to all players on November 12th, 2024 at 9 AM PST. Get ready to reimagine your world, one gadget at a time!
