GameRefinery :

GameRefinery, a Liftoff company, has recently published a report analyzing the top mobile games markets in the US, China, and Japan for February 2024. In the report, GameRefinery's analysts have selected the most noteworthy updates from February's data for each country, such as new releases, special events, and game updates.

Here’s what they found:

  • Subscription plans continue to evolve in the mobile gaming landscape. Notably, Match Masters has replaced their auto-renewing subscription plan with a "Premium Pass" activated through any in-game purchase, potentially driving greater player spending and catering to a wider range of spending preferences.

  • Playrix's Homescapes further pushes the boundaries of minigame events by introducing a tournament-style format within a larger exploration event. This adds a competitive element and incentivizes greater in-game energy consumption.

  • Mobile Legends: Bang Bang saw a significant boost in both downloads and revenue following a successful collaboration with Attack on Titan. This involved players engaging with anime content and answering quizzes for rewards, offering a unique blend of IP and gameplay.

  • February saw growth for non-traditional puzzle games. Merge titles such as Seaside Escape and Travel Town saw significant boosts, with the latter breaking into the top 20 highest-grossing and top 10 for downloads. Whilst in the hybrid casual genre, Twisted Tangle and Hexa Short continued their upward trajectory in the top-grossing ranks. On the matching game front, Happy Match Cafe experienced steady growth, reaching the top 50 for grossing.

  • League of Legends: Wild Rift Arena Mode was Initially conceived as a limited-time mode but has now been made a permanent feature. Indicating a positive reception from players and reflects the development team's strategic approach to Live Operations.
