Northern Forge Studios, creators of the geolocation hit title Orna: the GPS RPG, have released Hero of Aethric, a turn-based MMORPG on the Google Play and App Store. After spending two months in Early Access and amassing over 800,000 players, the full launch of the title brings a slew of new features including a rogue-lite inspired endgame system, new explorable zones and a massive amount of quality of life changes.
Hero of Aethric is a mobile turn-based MMORPG that takes inspiration from classic JRPGs while modernizing the game with live-service and multiplayer functionality. Players will adventure through a pixel-art fantasy world slowly uncovering a land ravaged by a cataclysmic event. Along their journey they will defeat a variety of monsters to gather their unique loot, level up their characters to unlock over 50 new classes, and combine a loadout of gear and spells to find their own unique builds. Players can also enjoy full co-op support for up to 4 players in-battle and explore the world together. You can find friends in the game via the guild system called Kingdoms, which offer up unique raids to players.
Hero of Aethric is a live service title and has unique events, features and cosmetics released each month. The release patch, titled Towers of Olympia, brings 22 new alternative endgame classes to the game, allowing for increasingly diverse character expression. The patch also adds the titular game mode, Towers of Olympia, that has players climbing a rogue-lite inspired dungeon in an effort to defeat the Titan awaiting them at the top floor (pictured above). For those who have yet to reach the endgame, there is a brand new original soundtrack, player guidance systems and numerous quality of life changes added to this patch.
Since launching in Early Access during November, Hero of Aethric has resonated with players with the initial audience fast-approaching the 1 million player mark. The title has reached the top of the Roleplaying games category on the Google Play Store in the United States and in numerous locales across the globe. The title was recently nominated for the Canadian Game Devs Game of the Year award alongside titles such as Tunic, Nobody Saves the World and TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. The studio’s first title - Orna: the GPS - picked up the “Best Ongoing Canadian Game” against juggernaut titles Dead by Daylight and Warframe.
Northern Forge Studios are a studio that works collaboratively with their community and builds their games alongside them. Their first title, Orna, which has had over 2 million players since releasing 4 years ago, utilizes geolocation technology to turn your real life environment into an RPG adventure. The studio was able to gather the goodwill of mobile gamers due to the lack of pay-to-play, pay-to-win or ad-driven monetization. These same principles carry over into the release of their second title as the game can be played from beginning to end without opening your wallet.
