Iconia Defenders is a nostalgic tower defense with a minimalist feel and a rogue-lite twist

29 July 2024 - Iconia Defenders - the new title from husband-and-wife indie studio Anawim Studios - releases a new demo today as part of Steam’s Tower Defense Fest.


The game, which combines nostalgic tower defense action with rogue-lite elements and deckbuilding game mechanics - also gets a brand new trailer that showcases its stripped-back look-and-feel and its intriguing time-traveling storyline.

Stripped of all memories and powers by a sacrificial act, players will find themselves in possession of the Corruption Extractor - the only tool that can remove the Corruption from the roots of this world.


Each defeat brings players back to the roots of the Tree of Life, where it restores their powers in exchange for the corrupted essence extracted during their trial. Each branch of the Tree represents its own unique timeline, its own ordeals, and its own new hope. The mission? Purify the Tree's timelines - for each failed attempt leaves a branch doomed to oblivion...


Iconia Defenders provides tower defense fans with a nostalgic gameplay loop reminiscent of genre classics - but with a novel twist. The rogue-lite and deck-building mechanics add complexity and variety to play styles, while a minimalist aesthetic inspired by Norse mythology streamlines the experience and allows players to fully immerse themselves in the flow of the game.
