David and Sophie Younger, the husband-and-wife team behind INKLINGWOOD STUDIOS, are pleased to announce a new collaboration with another creative couple, established adventure game developers Francisco González and Jess Haskins of GRUNDISLAV GAMES and THE GAME EDITORS, to oversee voice production on Inklingwood’s upcoming point & click adventure game FOOLISH MORTALS.

David Younger explains: "When we produced the Foolish Mortals demo, I handled all aspects of voice production myself, including more than one thousand voice clip auditions! With only six characters, I just about managed, but I knew that there was an opportunity to go far more professional with the voice production in the full game. Thanks to the success of our Kickstarter, we've reached the point of casting an additional 30 characters, as well as re-recording all dialogue from the demo. I knew it was time to bring in a team with experience, and that is where Francisco and Jess come in!"

The Game Editors will oversee script editing, casting, recording and post-production on the fully voiced, full-length adventure game, transforming more than 75,000 words of dialogue into a living (and un-living) world inhabited by a fearsome phantom, a ghostly gardener, an inebriated ferryman, superstitious rumrunners and many more colorful characters.

A family-run boutique consulting studio, The Game Editors provides narrative and editorial services alongside its newest offering, full-service voiceover production. FOOLISH MORTALS will be the team’s first external voiceover project.

Together, Haskins and González handle script editing and voice production for titles from González’s own studio, Grundislav Games. Their 2018 detective adventure Lamplight City was acclaimed for its voice acting. The duo raised the bar again for their upcoming Western adventure Rosewater, assembling a highly talented, star-studded cast of union voice actors with credits including Red Dead Redemption, Firewatch, and The Walking Dead.

“We've always put an emphasis on fluid, expressive dialogue and nuanced performance in our projects,” Haskins says. “Finding amazing actors and getting to work with them in the recording booth is one of the most fun parts of the work! Now we’re taking the expertise we’ve honed on our own games over the years and using it to help others achieve that same high level of voiceover quality on an indie budget. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Inklingwood on Foolish Mortals to bring this fantastic cast of characters to life.”

Jess Haskins is a game editor, narrative designer and founder of The Game Editors. Her previous roles include writer and game designer on Guns of Icarus Online and creative director on Hiveswap. She has edited numerous games, including point & clicks Lamplight City, The Plague Doctor of Wippra and PRIM, idle adventure The Longing and tropical farm sim Coral Island.

Francisco González has been making adventure games using Adventure Game Studio and releasing them as Grundislav Games since 2001. After completing the eight-part Ben Jordan series of freeware adventures in 2012, he began making games professionally: A Golden Wake was published in 2014, followed by Shardlight in 2016 and Lamplight City in 2018.

David Younger continues: "Francisco's Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator was an incredible source of inspiration to me as a teenager, when I first started pondering the creation of my own adventure games. It's taken me two decades to make the leap into actually doing it, but to now be working alongside Francisco would have blown my mind at the time."

FOOLISH MORTALS is a point & click graphic adventure game in which the player takes control of Murphy McCallan, a young treasure hunter arriving on the island of Devil's Rock in search of the lost treasure of Bellemore Manor, where 30 years ago an entire wedding suddenly and mysteriously vanished. With plenty of puzzles spanning more than 75 gorgeously hand-drawn backgrounds, players are sure to get fully immersed in this ghostly world of the merry and the macabre.

FOOLISH MORTALS is due to be released later in 2024. The game can be wishlisted on Steam at https://store.steampowered.com/app/1848440/Foolish_Mortals/
