World Cyber Games | 4 May 2005, Singapore - The global organiser of the World Cyber Games 2005, International Cyber Marketing, Inc. (ICM) has appointed MediaCorp TV Singapore to be the host broadcaster of the event to be held in November this year. Held annually since the year 2000, the World Cyber Games is the world's largest "Cyber Game Festival" where the best gamers around the world gather to pit their skills against one another in the exhilarating virtual world of computer and video game tournaments. Singaporeans can experience the excitement of the games through daily one-hour broadcasts on MediaCorp TV Channel U and TV Mobile.
Cyber gaming has been growing in popularity around the world. Since WCG Challenge started in year 2000, WCG has broken the language barrier between cultures and made cyber games almost like a "second common language" for the world after sports. Participants of the WCG Grand Finals have increased from 389 in 2001 to an expected 800 players from 70 countries this year.
Said Mr Hank Jeong, CEO of ICM: "We are very excited that MediaCorp TV, one of the major media outlets in Singapore, is the official host broadcaster of WCG 2005 Grand Final. As the world's largest computer and video game festival, WCG has put in various efforts to promote the game as one where it is as fun for spectators to watch as it is for the gamers to play. The partnership with MediaCorp TV will enable us to provide the best WCG contents to the general public, as well as to gaming fans too."
Madam Chua Foo Yong, CEO of MediaCorp TV said: "It is an honour for MediaCorp TV to be the platform that brings international events of such scale to Singaporeans. We are grateful for the vision and support of the Media Development Authority without which this will not have been possible."
