London, 20th October 2004 - The dbigames publishing unit of Digital Bridges, a world leader in the creation and distribution of mobile entertainment solutions, and Codemasters today announced the launch of the mobile phone edition of Colin McRae Rally 2005TM. The 2005 edition of mobile's most exhilarating rally racer will also be the first branded "connected" mobile racing game in the market, with users able to re-connect to the network from within the game to post high scores, view high score tables, enter tournaments, and even download a friend's performance and race against the friend's "shadow" within the game.
The Colin McRae Rally franchise is the benchmark for rally videogaming, a benchmark that the mobile version of Colin McRae Rally 2005TM lives up to by giving players the chance to race as Colin McRae in the Subaru Impreza WRX. The game, which sports both behind-the-car and dashboard viewpoints, reproduces the thrills of four different rally courses (set in Britain, Spain, Sweden and Australia), complete with full 3D graphics and variable weather conditions.
Using Digital Bridges' "Connected Gaming" technology, players of Colin McRae Rally 2005TM can upload and download "ghost racers" to compete against. Rally drivers can then potentially beat and record a global best time, which they can then add to the rally times leader board featured on the mobile game's companion website.
Developed by iomo Ltd., the game's courses are packed with hairpins, chicanes and challenging terrains. Players can enjoy three different game modes, including Championship/Career, Quick Race and 2-Player Head to Head. dbigames will publish and distribute the downloadable game across its various European distribution channels, including wireless network operators, retail, interactive television, and web portals.
Paul Maglione, SVP of Publishing & Marketing for Digital Bridges said: "Our UNITY platform is driving the next stage of development in mobile gaming. Through "connected gaming", the user connects back to the UNITY server from within a game to download further features, in this case enabling players to post high scores or download and then race against a friend's best performance. Connected gaming is the multi-player gaming of today, and we are delighted to be showcasing it in the context of one of the greatest videogame franchises ever."
