Bellingham, Washington – Fundamental Studios, an indie video game development company, has announced the release of its first educational video game “What’s the Matter?” on March 1, 2022, on Steam. This is the first game to be released in a series of educational games aimed to make learning fun and enjoyable.

What’s the Matter Explained

“What’s the Matter?” is a twin-stick shooter with rogue-like elements that introduces players to the periodic table of elements. Players take on the character of Matty Matter and work to save bits of matter on different rescue missions. As the character collects matter, points are accumulated, and different elements are explored.

- Hand drawn graphics
- Randomly generated levels
- Upgrade system that makes every playthrough unique
- Voice acting
- Original Jazz tunes
- Enemies that attack to the music
- Progress through the periodic table of elements
- Menu system containing facts about the elements.
- Three separate rescue missions with their own space environment, enemies and bosses.
More About Fundamental Studios
The game was developed by Fundamental Studios, an up-and-coming indie game development studio.  The studio was founded by Phil and Antonella Arnone on a passion for science and wanted to bring that passion to others through video games.  The husband and wife team, noticing a lack in educational games, saw a gap in the video game market and decided to fill it. The studio is based out of Bellingham, WA, and this will be the first of many games released.
