          One Thousand Acts of Decency, an episodic murder-mystery visual novel originally released in January of 2024, has just launched its first major update as of April 29th- adding an entirely new episode of over 100,000 words, (about six hours of gameplay.) Both Case One and Case Two can be downloaded for free at domedev.itch.io/one-thousand-acts-of-decency.

 
A Brand New Mystery Unfolds

          Set one month after the events of Case One, the second case sees the core cast investigating a series of thefts that have been occurring at a local scrapyard. The sprawling, fenced-in lot has been the target of a serial shoplifter, with small pieces of metal going missing nearly every day for the past six months, irrespective of the numerous security measures put in place. What seemed to be a simple case of larceny quickly spirals out of control as an unidentified victim is found among the piles of metal and machinery, crushed to death. It’s up to Chive, Oscar, and Shallot to discover not just who the culprit is, but who the enigmatic victim is, too.

          Alongside the player is a group of suspects who are also trapped within the confines of the junkyard until the case is solved. Among them are Campanita Mooney, the hot-headed manager of the scrapyard, Bianco Bergrey, a former child star with unknown motives for visiting the junkyard, and Caesar Danton, a football player-turned-cashier working at a nearby convenience store. Each one of them seems to be hiding a secret of their own: could those secrets hold the key to cracking the case?
 
About One Thousand Acts of Decency

       One Thousand Acts of Decency is a murder-mystery visual novel set in a dystopian world with a dramatically rising homicide rate- a murder rate so out-of-control that drastic measures have been taken to curb the growing problem. A controversial new policing measure known simply as The Dome is put into place. The Dome is used to cordon off crime scenes whenever and wherever a murder occurs, trapping not just the killer within the vicinity, but any innocent passersby, as well. In a distinctly hands-off approach, the solving of the mystery is left solely at the discretion of those unlucky enough to be trapped inside with the killer- with the group being required to come to a complete consensus as to who the murderer is within just eight short hours.
          Chive O’Higgins, the main character, is a twenty-one year old pharmacology student living in Cleveland, Ohio. In this installment, he finds himself caught up in a bizarre series of crimes at Aliuros Steel Sales- a scrapyard. While looking for clues surrounding a series of thefts, Chive unwittingly stumbles upon a murder scene, and is left with no choice but to solve the case underneath the giant, imposing dome. With his cousin, Shallot, and journalism student, Oscar, at his side, Chive will need to interrogate the suspects and scour the junkyard for clues. Time is passing, and daylight is running out- will he be able to uncover the truth before it's buried amidst the rusting metal?

       Dynamic Fully-3D Environments - As you work towards solving the mysteries at hand, you'll see the lighting change as time passes, gradually covering the world in the cold darkness of nighttime and giving each “phase” of the investigation its own individual aesthetic.
 
       Investigate from New Angles - A brand new way to examine evidence has been added- during the case you'll be given the opportunity to freely manipulate 3D objects to find clues hidden in unexpected places. Taking full advantage of the game’s 3D assets, this gives players a new tool in their arsenal with which to uncover secrets.
 
          Solve a Variety of Logic Puzzles - To uncover the truth behind the crimes at Aliuros Steel Sales, you must use your wits to present evidence, point out discrepancies between clues, discredit suspects, and consider several different arguments. This case will offer a rewarding challenge for all fans of the mystery genre- both new and old.

       With cases one and two released and a third case well on its way, One Thousand Act of Decency is in active development.
