Pittsburgh, PA – December 4, 2024 – Following its massively successful Kickstarter campaign that achieved over 1000% of its funding goal this summer, the high-flying felines at Mega Cat Studios and ZPF Team are thrilled to announce that pre-orders are now open for ZPF, a brand-new 16-bit shoot-‘em-up for the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive. Starting today, bullet-dodging aficionados can secure their copy through Backerkit.
Inspired by classic shooters such as Lords of Thunder, Elemental Master, and Thunder Force 3 and 4, ZPF transports players to a variety of surreal realms that combine horror, sci-fi, and fantasy themes as they embark on a pulse-pounding, action-packed journey that pushes the limits of the Sega Genesis hardware. With its stunning pixel art, lightning-fast gameplay, and an electrifying soundtrack that will transport players back to the golden age of 16-bit gaming, it’s a shoot-’em-up sensation no fans of the genre can afford to miss!
Key Features:
Go head-to-head against hordes of screen-filling bosses
Test your skills with an engaging and satisfying scoring system that rewards boldness
6+ levels of absolute insanity as you soar across surreal sci-fi, horror, and fantasy landscapes
Three unique characters to master, each with their own play style
A high-energy chiptune soundtrack that fits the on-screen action like a glove
Reflecting on ZPF’s upcoming launch, the game’s creator and ZPF Team co-founder Gryzor said, “In 2019, I had no idea where this thing would even go. It didn't have much direction or focus at the start, but the mess smoothed out, and eventually things clicked into place,” he continued, “By the time the Kickstarter was ready, I had done at least twice the work as any of my other projects...and still more going now. It's felt like we’ve been finished three or four times already, but it'll be nice to be finally done."
The Genesis and Mega Drive versions of ZPF are slated to ship in Q1 2025, with a Steam release to follow soon after.
