Solo developer project, with plenty of updates to come
Spirittea, the rural life sim inspired by Studio Ghibli classic Spirited Away, has made a huge splash during launch week, with over 150,000 players and sales that have secured the game's future for a long time to come.
Creator by solo developer Dan Beckerton aka Cheesemaster Games, and published by No More Robots, Spirittea follows a writer who has escaped to the countryside, in order to clear their head and find inspiration for their next novel. Upon drinking from a ghostly teapot, they gain spirit vision, and can start helping the local spirits with their problems.
The game has seen $1 million in revenue during its first month, and became profitable on day one. Development costs have now essentially been made back three times over, and plans to heavily expand the game in future months and years are secured.
Strong Nintendo Switch sales have contributed, with the game appears in the Top Sellers charts in nearly every region on the Nintendo eShop. Meanwhile, Spirittea's inclusion in the Game Pass subscription service has provided 10,000s of additional players.
Spirittea will now go through a period of constant updates, initially fixing up any issues found by the community, before moving on to new free content for the game.
ABOUT THE GAME:
Spirittea is a life sim, management game, and detective game all in one. Players live day to day, finding local NPCs and spirits to help, and taking part in tons of different hobbies, ranging from bug catching to karaoke.
Every spirit you help will then turn up at your bathhouse, where you can offer them towels, salts, snacks, and a lovely hot soak. Upgrading your bathhouse with new furniture, rooms and baths is key to attracting the most exciting spirits, including elusive Lord Spirits, who take up an entire room each.
Spirittea is available now on PC, Game Pass and Nintendo Switch. The press kit can be found here.
