Least Significant Bit :

SEATTLE — June, 2024 — Say goodbye to boring dialog options and instead say, well, anything you want. Talk to Me Human, the inaugural game from Seattle-based indie studio Least Significant Bit, pioneers an emerging genre of freeform speech games with its innovative use of AI-driven dialog. The game, just released in early access, challenges players to think on their feet and converse out loud with voiced AI characters who respond in real-time.

Each level of Talk to Me Human puts players in a sticky social situation, such as persuading their boss to let them leave work early, or surviving a roast battle with a pompous British bartender. To play, one simply talks. The game’s AI-driven characters evaluate the player’s persuasive skill, then reply dynamically. Firing off comebacks and spinning absurd lies makes for creative gameplay, and the ensuing mischief sparks raucous laughter when playing with friends.

Set in an AI-generated landscape dotted with bumbling robots and incompetent AI, Talk to Me Human presents a quirky and lighthearted vision of a near-future society. The player, tasked with raising their social standing, must navigate corporate blunders and repair soured friendships to collect “social currency,” the game’s point system. Across more than 25 currently playable levels, the player builds their relationship with a cast of characters, each with a compellingly lifelike voice. Acts I and II can be experienced now, with the second half of the adventure to be released upon the game’s full launch.

Talk to Me Human has an unusual origin story. “I just finished my PhD in AI, where my goal was to get computers to learn basic social commonsense,” says Max Forbes, the developer behind Least Significant Bit. “One day I had the idea: why not flip the script, and make us prove to computers that we have social intelligence? The formula was hilarious, so I ran with it!”

Talk to Me Human is out now in early access for $4.99. It is played directly on its website (https://talktomehuman.com/), and works on mobile devices  (iOS / Android), tablets, and desktops (PC / Mac / Linux).
