The rapidly expanding ARIDA backlands

This is the newest achievement by Aoca Game Lab, the Brazilian company responsible for creating ÁRIDA, the award-winning series of games that tells the story of Cícera, a 13-year-old girl who lives in the Brazilian backlands and witnesses the formation of the historic town of Canudos .


Published by Editora Europa, the launch establishes an unusual partnership between a Brazilian independent games company and a book publisher. Titled "The Art of ÁRIDA - Book I: Awakening", the physical ArtBook is available for pre-order, with release scheduled for 6/14.

Those who visited Aoca's booth at the 2023 Brazil Game Show could interact with a prototype version of the book, and the public's reaction was the validation that Aoca needed to put the plan into practice. Aimed at collectors and people passionate about the series, the book contains many of the arts and concepts that brought ÁRIDA to life and details of Aoca's creative vision and behind-the-scenes!

A Aoca Game Lab is a game company from Bahia, Brazil, founded in 2016. They released the first version of ÁRIDA for PCs in 2019, receiving positive responses from both the public and critics. In June of this year, they made the Android version available. Now, they are launching the version for iPhones and iPads.


The narrative of ÁRIDA is inspired by historical events, such as the formation of the iconic settlement of Canudos. The game has received awards in national and international events and is also licensed for educational books that bring the game into classrooms across Brazil.


The upcoming challenges for Aoca consist of releasing versions of ÁRIDA 1 for consoles (Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PS5), as well as the highly anticipated for 2024 and ÁRIDA 2: Rise of the Brave, scheduled for 2025.
