WRKS Games :

LONDON

24 July 2024

WRKS Games is excited to announce we will be moving our primary business operations to Singapore. The move will result in the UK business closing down and a new entity being set up in Singapore that will inherit the current IP, products, and revenue streams currently associated with the UK-based company.

"Over the last few years, I have seen a declining support for creative industries in line with what companies require to succeed in both the UK and EU. Coupled with increased political volatility, decreased economic outlook, and the swing to the extreme right-wing exhibited by the European population over the last few years - I no longer think that the ambitious business plan that WRKS Games embodies is properly aligned towards success by being in Europe. The games industry in the Western world does not seem to have learned any lessons from its past and when undertaking a large mission as we are doing, the quality and stability of the environment in both the industry and the country/region matter a lot. We are pleased to have found a new home more aligned with our values of diversity, excellence, and ambition along with a funding layer appropriate for our goals, in Singapore." - Kosala Ubayasekara, Founder and CEO, WRKS Games.

The transition is expected to be completed by Dec 31, 2024. The customer and fan base will see no changes to their ability to acquire our games and products and no changes to the support of the current products or the announced future roadmap.

Over the past 7 years, WRKS Games has had a core team of 6 people and a freelance team of around 12 people at any given time based on funded projects, fully remote from the start. The move of the company comes with our commitment to the Singaporean government to create local jobs in the country. As such we will be transitioning from the remote first format we have had for the last 7 years to a more traditional studio model with a fixed office in Singapore. The company will provide a grace period until Aug 31 2025 for any of the team to make a decision about relocation and if they chose to do so, full relocation assistance will be provided.
