Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?
The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
A look at interviewing students for leadership roles on team projects.
In the last few weeks I had the opportunity to interview students for leadership positions for their second team game at the Guildhall at SMU. The students could apply for the following roles: Assistant Game Designer, Assistant Lead Level Designer, Assistant Lead Artist, or Assistant Lead Programmer. While I was only able to interview a portion of the students on the project, I was able to interview at least one person for each of the leadership roles.
During the interviews, each student was asked only five questions that were directed at their values, preferences, and planning processes. We used these questions because they allowed us, who had no previous interaction with these students, to get to know the students before we placed them on teams.
After finishing the interviews in the morning, I met with the other assistant producers and our producer to discuss the team formation. Using limited knowledge of the students interactions in their last team game project and the information we had gathered in their interviews, we placed people on teams in positions that we believe give each team the best chance of success.
I am very interested in seeing the games that these teams will be making in the next few months.
