Users of tech provider Emergent's Gamebryo engine will get free licenses for Allegorithmic's ProFX procdural texturing middleware in celebration of their integration launch, Emergent announced. The offer, which excludes MMO developers, is valid until September 31, 2008. ProFX provides tools for authoring and generating procedural textures "500x to 2000x smaller" than traditional bitmaps, which the company says is geared at enabling downloadable content. Additionally, Allegorithmic says its resolution-independent textures can be used to create diffuse, normal, specular and other complex maps, while the MapZone texture editor enables developers to create and edit textures locally. Allegorithmic participates in Emergent's Certitfied Partner Program, which integrates partner tools into the Gamebryo platform; the free license initiative is the first of this particular parnership. Emergent undertook a similar promotion with Wwise earier this year. "This is just the first step in what we see as a meaningful partnership with Emergent," Allegorithmic founder and president Sébastien Deguy commented. "Extending free ProFX licenses and training materials to developers using the Gamebryo platform will open up many new opportunities for our two customer bases to communicate, share and develop outstanding games content."
