Game development software company TransGaming has announced the launch of GameTree TV, an on-demand gaming platform for French consumers that can be used directly through existing set-top boxes. Working in partnership with Free, a leading French telecommunications company, TransGaming has brought its new gaming platform to the Freebox Revolution, a set-top box that launched last December. GameTree TV has launched with 25 titles, including Bejeweled, Plants Vs Zombies and World of Goo, with more titles introduced on a weekly basis. Users can choose to pay a small fee to rent a game for a single day or a week, or pay full price for unlimited plays. All purchases will be billed directly through the customer's monthly Free invoice. Maxime Lombardini, CEO of Free's holding company Iliad, noted, "The GameTree TV platform adds a compelling new dimension to our entertainment portfolio, further differentiating our unique offering." "Our subscribers now have access to a whole new gaming experience thanks to our partnership with TransGaming. This is a truly exciting time for home entertainment." TransGaming's CEO & president Vikas Gupta agreed. "Today's commercial launch of our innovative platform, GameTree TV, represents the culmination of years of innovation and strategic investment and also marks the start of an exciting new revenue stream for the company," he said. "As the first broadband operator to offer GameTree TV, Free has more than lived up to its reputation as an innovator in the consumer Internet market. France is demonstrating its leadership position in on-demand Smart TV gaming, and we expect many other markets to follow soon."
