It looks like Valve contemplated adding women to the cast of Team Fortress 2 at one point, before ultimately deciding against the move.

Old concept art posted by former Valve artist Drew Wolf depicts alternate versions of Team Fortress 2's iconic characters, with Wolf explaining the designs were made for an "internal pitch project aimed to bring female characters to the game."

"I was responsible for story, character development and visual design," explains Wolf on his website."With the exception of their class function, It was important that each design presented an entirely new character.

"I wanted these characters to live on their own and add dimension to the current roster of in-game characters. The goal of the project was to dive deep into possibilities and facilitate creative discussion."

Unfortunately, there's no word on why the project wasn't taken further, but it's still neat (if somewhat bittersweet) to see each class reimagined. You can check out the full series, along with Wolf's other work, by clicking right here.
