Developer Diary #10: Art Update

As work continues on NSB I continue to add new items to our library of characters, environments, and props, so I thought I would take a little time to give you a better idea of what the game will look like.

Our main character has already popped up in a couple of posts, but here he is dressed up in his favourite raincoat.  This coat is actually going to be the centerpiece of the first puzzle in the game.

This was the first piece of background art completed for the game.  I worked from start to almost fully rendered in one pass, which had some advantages and drawbacks.  The problem with investing so much time up front is that all that it might be for nothing.  Once things get into the game there are often necessary changes that present themselves through play.  The benefit of completing at least one piece to this state is that it gives you an idea what the rest of the finished art will look like and creates a target to compare the other art to.

Here are all three pieces of the classroom, laid out in sequence.

Look for more art updates in the future.
