Gamasutra has learned of the passing of Alfonso Azpiri, the accomplished Spanish artist and author best known for his work in comic books and video games.

Azpiri was perhaps best known for creating the adult-oriented comic book character/series Lorna and the more kid-friendly comic series Mot, but his work spanned the gamut during his decades-long career.

Both series were adapted into video games which Azpiri contributed to as an artist; a self-avowed fan of the medium, he also amassed a collection of art credits (mostly as a cover artist) on a variety of games released throughout the '80s and '90s.

According to a tribute from the adult-oriented comics magazine Heavy Metal (to which Azpiri contributed), the artist died at his home on Friday after a bout with cancer.
