Remembering the life and work of Fallout concept artist Adam Adamowicz

Just over three years after Fallout 3 concept artist Adam Adamowicz passed away, Kotaku has today published an earnest post from coworker and friend Jonah Lobe celebrating the artist's life and work.

- Longtime Bethesda artist Jonah Lobe remembers the life and work of fellow artist Adam Adamowicz.

It's been a bit over three years since artist Adam Adamowicz passed away, and today Kotaku has published an earnest post from friend and former Bethesda character artist Jonah Lobe celebrating Adamowicz's life and work.

Lobe met Adamowicz at Bethesda Softworks, where they both worked as artists on multiple games in the studio's catalog. The pair developed a friendship as Lobe worked with Adamowicz to translate the former's concept artwork into actual character designs.

Adamowicz contributed to multiple projects before passing away in 2012, and is celebrated for defining the look of Fallout 3 (and, by extension, this year's Fallout 4, which Lobe also contributed to) through his concept artwork.

Lobe left Bethesda in the latter half of 2012, but he relates how the lessons he learned working with Adamowicz shaped the way he understands creativity and applies it to his work.

"Adam’s creative process went beyond mere design," writes Lobe. "It was Adam who taught me that characters were more affecting with unexpected nuance: the horrifying is more horrible when infused with comedy; the disgusting all the more stomach-churning when mixed with beauty."
