Lucasarts will combine the previously digital-only HD remakes of its first two Monkey Island adventure games into a special edition retail package, the company said Friday. Called the Monkey Island Special Edition Collection, the package will include both The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge, along with previously unpublished bonus features that include concept art from the games and pre-production materials from an unrealized feature film. The collection will also include playable soundtracks for both games, the company said. The Monkey Island Special Edition remakes present the original two adventure game classics -- originally released in 1990 and 1991 -- with an optional HD mode that redraws the original sprites, adds voice acting, and plays remastered music. They are notable for allowing the player to switch back-and-forth between the original and the remastered versions on-the-fly. They were released for both Windows and Macintosh PCs, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, and iOS devices. The new compilation package will be released in Europe on September 9th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PCs. A release in other regions has not been announced at this time.
