Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's Mortal Kombat has surpassed 3 million in worldwide sales, the company said Thursday. The game, which debuted in April for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, is a return to form for the long-running fighting game franchise infamous for its over-the-top violence. According to Warner Bros., it is the top-selling game in the fighting game genre in the United States for the year so far. "The game was a labor of love for us and we could not be more pleased with its performance," said Ed Boon, series co-creator and creative director on this latest title. "Fan reaction to this latest installment has made all of our hard work worth it." These sales come from a release that encompassed both North America and Europe. An Australian release was planned, though its Classification Review Board denied classification for the game, leaving Warner Bros. unable to release the game in that region.
