Commercial success of Batman: Arkham Knight and Mortal Kombat X helps boost Warner Bros. quarterly revenue by 15 percent.
Time Warner said today that the commercial success of Batman: Arkham Knight and Mortal Kombat X helped boost revenue in its Warner Bros. division for the fiscal quarter ended June 30.
"In the quarter, Warner Bros.’ games business shined, with the releases of Batman: Arkham Knight and Mortal Kombat X helping make it the top video game publisher for the first half of the year," commented Time Warner chairman and CEO, Jeff Bewkes.
The Warner Bros. division, which houses the Time Warner's games wing, reported a revenue increase of $428 million, pushing overall revenues for the division up to $3.3 billion. Games weren't the only factor in the revenue boost Warner Bros.--TV licensing revenues related to The Big Bang Theory and video on demand licensing of Seinfeld also contributed to the rise.
Operating income for Warner Bros. was $344 million for the quarter, up 46 percent year-on-year.
While bosses are clearly pleased with a solid quarter, they might be wondering what might've been had they not been forced to suspend sales of Arkham Knight on PC following a disastrous launch.
