Europe 2045 Inspires Collaboration Among Czech Students

Czech Republic news website Radio Praha reports that the recently released government simulation Europe 2045 has inspired homework collaboration among high school students in exchange for in-game policy support. Europe 2045 simulates the implementation and change of domestic policies within the European Union. Players cooperate in an online multiplayer environment to discuss and negotiate policy terms, and must address modern-day issues ranging from same-sex marriage to international relations. In addition, each player or group of players is given a unique project that requires campaigning to earn classroom support. Students argue in favor of various initiatives (such as environmental protection in the Green Europe project, and traditional values in the Conservative Europe project) during teacher-moderated discussions. Some students have become so passionate about their assigned projects that, according to Radio Praha, they have completed their classmates' homework in exchange for votes and support within Europe 2045. The title was developed by the non-profit organization Generation Europe, with the European Social Fund providing partial financial support. Currently, Europe 2045 is available only in the Czech language, though its creators say that an English-language version would be possible with additional funding.
