Fable and Black & White developer Lionhead Studios will shut down later today.

Last month, Microsoft announced it would be shuttering the UK developer and cancelling its in-progress RPG, Fable Legends -- which was then taken offline on April 13.

According to Microsoft Studios Europe's general manager, Hanno Lemke, the Xbox creator pulled the plug so it could "focus its investment and development on the games and franchises that fans find most exciting and want to play."

At the time of the announcement, Microsoft was already in talks with employees about the "proposed closure" of the studio. Now, after a six week consultation period, Lionhead's story has finally come to an end.

"We can confirm that after much consideration over the six week consultation period with Lionhead employees, we have reached the decision to close Lionhead Studios," read a Microsoft statement sent to Eurogamer.

"We have nothing but heart-felt thanks for the team at Lionhead for their significant contributions to Xbox and the games industry."
