Electronic Arts has made the decision to cease producing games in its FIFA Manager soccer series, noting that there's not really anywhere else to take the franchise -- and admitting that one dominant competitor in particular is making the space even tougher. FIFA Manager 14 will be the last in the franchise, says the team's Gerald Kohler, because "one game has practically dominated the market in recent years." Although he doesn't name the title specifically, it's obvious that he's referring to the ever-popular Football Manager series from Sega's Sports Interactive. Kohler also notes that soccer management games are primarily only played in England and Germany, and admits that other than boosting the series with new engines and online technology, there's not really anywhere else to take the franchise. The general trend towards online and mobile games are also to blame, he reasons, saying that it's difficult to survive in such a niche market now compared to when the series launched a decade ago.
