Killer Instinct studio Double Helix Games has been acquired by retail giant Amazon, although financial details of the acquisition have not yet been confirmed. Amazon confirmed to TechCrunch that it has acquired the Irvine, California studio. Double Helix was originally founded in 2007, and has since developed titles like Silent Hill: Homecoming, Front Mission Evolved, and the aforementioned Killer Instinct for Xbox One. This bolstering of Amazon's video game business comes as the company is about to launch its own living room device, and preparing third-party game studios for the launch. Notably, Microsoft has told Polygon that it will now be working with a "new developer partner" on Killer Instinct, and that the franchise will remain with Microsoft Studios.
