Bejeweled developer PopCap Games has detailed an exclusive partnership with Chinese social networking site Renren that will see the company release a social adaptation of Plants vs Zombies. The new version of the tower defense game, titled Plants vs. Zombies Social Edition and being developed by PopCap's Shanghai studio, will receive exclusive game modes, along with special social features and personalization opportunities. Players will be able to create their own towns in the game, custom built to reflect how they play, and then invite friends to visit via the social networking features. A new mode called Rampage will also come with online leaderboards that will allow players to compare their scores with friends'. Although no date has been given regarding when this game will become available on the Renren site, PopCap's James Gwertzman, VP of the Asia Pacific sectors, noted that almost 1 million people have already signed up to the Plants vs Zombies page on the site. "The passion for Plants vs Zombies here in China is incredible," he said. "There is superb demand for the game and we are excited to deliver the world's first online multiplayer adaptation of Plants vs Zombies in China very soon." Earlier in the week, PopCap announced that it has formed an agreement with Amazon, noting that it will release its first two Android games exclusively on the Amazon Appstore in two-week slots.
