Super Mario 3D Land Sells 340K Units In Japanese Opening Weekend

Nintendo's long-anticipated Super Mario 3D Land for 3DS topped the Japanese weekly software sales charts last week, selling over 300,000 units in its opening weekend. For the week ended November 6, data from tracking firm Media Create, and as reported by NeoGAF, shows that the latest Mario release racked up a total of 343,492 sales. Other big new releases were left to take up position behind it. Sony's Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception for PlayStation 3 sat at number two, while the PS3 version of EA's Battlefield 3 was forced back to number three. Konami's World Soccer Winning Eleven 2012 launched last week, with the PSP version the strongest seller, settling in at position six. The PS2 version even managed to enter the charts at number 15 -- the first time we've seen a PS2 title in the charts in a very long while. The latest in the Dragon Quest franchise, Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime 3 on Nintendo 3DS, landed at number seven, while Alchemist's Nicola Kanshuu: Model Oshare Audition 2 crawled into the charts at number 20. Last week's number one, Final Fantasy Type-0, still managed to sell an impressive 122,286 units, despite dropping to number four, meaning it has now seen approximately 600,000 units sold in total.
