Update: Interceptor Entertainment has now sent out a statement which notes that it is, in fact, Danish investment firm SDN Invest that has acquired 3D Realms. SDN Invest is part-owner and principal investor in Interceptor, and has made Mike Nielsen, currently a partner and investor at Interceptor, the new CEO of 3D Realms. Frederik Schreiber, CEO of Interceptor Entertainment, noted, "Getting 3D Realms under our wings is a huge step for us and we are extremely excited about the acquisition." And Scott Miller, co-founder of 3D Realms, explained, "My long time partner George Broussard and I are extremely proud of our past, especially as developers who always tried to partner with up-and-coming studios who just needed their break. Our history shows we did that throughout the 1990s & 2000s, and I expect the new 3D Realms to continue with this tradition in full force." Original story: Amidst the mess that is the Gearbox vs. 3D Realms and Interceptor Entertainment lawsuit, Interceptor says that it has acquired 3D Realms -- although there appears to be confusion over what this entails. Interceptor CEO Frederik Schreiber tweeted over the weekend that his company "have indeed acquired Apogee/3D Realms." Apogee was the original name of 3D Realms until 1996, and still the company's legal name. However, there's also another Apogee Software that was formed in 2008 as a spin-off from 3D Realms, and is currently working on Rise of the Triad. While Schreiber's original tweet included the Rise of the Triad Twitter account, Apogee has since clarified that this is not actually part of the deal. Schreiber then clarified himself that "We acquired 3D Realms (Legally, Apogee Software Ltd.) The new Apogee was established in 2008, which is a different company."
