A new study from market research firm Research2Guidance has found that Google's Android Market digital mobile storefront has now seen over 6 billion downloads in total across all its apps and games. As part of the research firm's Android Market Insights report for August 2011, the study explained that the Android Market is now the fastest growing app store overall. The Market now contains over 277,000 apps. In comparison, Apple revealed in July of this year that its App Store had seen over 15 billion downloads in total, and over 425,000 apps altogether. Weather apps generate the highest total revenue from paid downloads, followed by business apps, productivity apps and media/video apps. Android games are seventh overall. According to the study, the average application generates nearly $2,500 after being published, while the average selling price for Android apps is $3.13. Overall, the average Android publisher has released six apps into the Android Market, while four of those still remain for download from the store. Google revealed back in July that more than 550,000 Android devices were being activated every day.
