Capcom Announces Phoenix Wright Film In The Works

A feature film adaptation of Capcom's humorous lawyer-themed adventure game Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is in the works by a well known Japanese director, with plans for a 2012 release.

A feature film adaptation of Capcom's humorous lawyer-themed adventure game Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is in the works by a well known Japanese director, the company announced Friday. According to comments on Capcom-Unity.com, the film is being directed by Takashi Miike, a controversial filmmaker perhaps best known for comic book adaptation Ichi the Killer and horror film Audition. Phoenix Wright himself will be played by Hiroki Narimiya, with Takumi Saito in the role of prosecuting attorney Miles Edgeworth and Mirei Kiritani as Wright's assistant, Maya Fey. While no specific story details were announced, photos from the set point to an adaptation of the first game in the series. The Ace Attorney series, primarily a Nintendo DS game franchise, has shipped over 4.1 million units worldwide as of March 31, 2011, the company said. The film adaptation has a tentative Japanese release date of early spring 2012.
