California-based Cold Iron Studios made a show of announcing itself to the world this week, issuing a proclamation to press that it's a "fully-funded" online game studio working on its debut (Unreal Engine 4) game.
While the debut itself isn't huge news -- Cold Iron was quietly founded late last year, and has been running job ads for some time -- the team behind it is notable for any devs with an eye on the world of online games.
Cold Iron's founding team include a posse of expats from longtime online game dev Cryptic Studios, including former Cryptic COO Craig Zinkievich (now CEO of Cold Iron), former Cryptic lead programmer and game director Shannon Posniewski, and longtime Cryptic artist (most recently Neverwinter's art director) Matt Highison.
Cold Iron has reportedly built a prototype and obtained full funding for its first game project, though it's yet unclear where that funding came from or when the project will see the light of day.
