Tokyo-based social and mobile gaming giant DeNA has announced plans to establish a new studio in Singapore, as a means of expanding its operations in Asia. DeNA Asia will focus on partnering with social mobile game developers in the south and southeast regions of Asia, and will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of DeNA. The company says it will be looking to bring high-quality titles to smartphones worldwide, via acquisitions of local developers in the area. It also has future plans to localize its Mobage platform for Asia. DeNA's Tetsuya Mori is set to head the new subsidiary with an initial capitalization of 500,000 Singapore dollars ($410k). He explained, "Mobage is a truly global platform for social games and entertainment and we’re excited to expand our game development capability in the Asia-Pacific region with DeNA Asia." "Southeast and South Asia are full of entrepreneurial talent and have huge growth potential. DeNA Asia will serve as local developers’ gateway to the global market and bring unprecedented monetization opportunities by enabling them to deliver social games across borders and devices." DeNA launched its Mobage platform in English-speaking regions last month, with the app now available to download for Android devices from the Android Marketplace. Numerous big game developers also revealed they has signed with the company to produce titles for Mobage, including Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune and Suda 51 of Grasshopper Manufacture.
